Our new Isese Mondays enters its second week with a prayer to Orisa Ogun. Ogun is one of the most popular and feared male Orishas, both in Nigeria and the diaspora.
Who is Ogun?
Ogun is the Orisa of iron, war, hunting and technology. A skilled blacksmith, hunter and warrior, Ogun is a powerful force to be reckoned with and is popularly known for clearing our paths.
Itan (The Story)
When the Irunmole first arrived at Ile-Ife, they got to a dense forest preventing them from going any further. Obatala first tried with his silver cutlass, but it wasn't strong enough to cut through the dense forest. Ogun took charge, using his own cutlass, which was made of iron and very strong. That was how the thick forest was cleared, making a way for the the Irunmole to proceed and set things up on earth.
Iba Ogun Osin Imole! the one who escorts the divinities, I pay homage to you.
The teaching:
If all users of iron should acknowledge Ogun and pay homage to him, then pretty much each and every one of us must venerate Ogun. Whatever is made of iron and its derivatives is of Ogun. Ogun's energy is all over the world.

Ogun Ori Prayer
This is NOT the main Ogun prayer (you can get that in the PDF by entering your information above), but this Ogun Ori prayer can be incorporated into your Ori work, whenever you wish to channel the energy of Ogun.
As you do your Ori prayers, ask your Ori to go to the house of Ogun and bring you clear paths that lead to good fortune. Ask your Ori to open up and receive the warrior spirit of Ogun to enable you to conquer all obstacles.
Asẹ!
As you progress on your Isese journey, be sure to include Ogun in your life. Appease him when you can, to make sure the obstacles in the way of your success are removed. You neither have to be initiated, nor a child of Ogun to appease him and receive his blessings.
Ogun Ye, Mo Ye!
