Morning Ori Prayer and Oriki
Morning Ori Prayer and Oriki

Connecting with your ori or doing your Ori work, as we like to call it, is key to spiritual development in the Ifa tradition/Isese.

What Is Your Ori?
Ori is the Yoruba word for your physical head on your shoulders, but it is also your spiritual head, your god self, your inner Divine, the creator of your destiny, your higher consciousness, your inner Spirit. You get the picture. I will be taking a closer look at Ori in upcoming posts, but some of the things I get asked the most in consultations or coaching sessions is how to connect with your Ori, how to do a morning Ori prayer or for an Oriki in English.

Here is and edited version of the text from the video I recently posted on social media, but I will also be posting an oriki in English below. When you wake up in the morning, you can do this on your bed or in the shower. I tend to do my Ori work in the shower, because I enjoy the energy of water.

Hold your head with your two hands and first pay homage to Olodumare and your Ori(Iba Olodumare, Iba Eleda mi, Iba Ori). Then, give thanks to your Ori for protecting you through the night and ask your Ori to protect and guide you through the day.

Ori Prayer

May my Ori protect, guide and support me.

May my Ori protect my home and my children(or future children).

May my Ori guide my relationship choices(or support my relationship).

May my Ori guide and lead my feet towards great places where I will be elevated.

May my Ori fight for me, draw all good things to me and make me prosperous.

May my Ori fill me with the wisdom and clarity needed to work on my character.

May my Ori open up to receive all the blessings intended for me.

May my Ori lead and empower me on my journey towards fulfilling my destiny.

Ori san mi

Ori mi gbe mi

Ori mi ja fun mi

Ori mi la mi ooo

Ori mi ma pada leyin mi

Ase Olodumare

Feel free to customize it and make it your own. It is your Ori and you know what you are going through. I will be posting more Ori prayers. I usually ask my Ori to protect me for any and all negative energy and evil.
"Wherever my name is called in evil altars or shrines, my Ori will not answer"
"I ask my Ori to steer my feet away from evil, negative energy and anything which doesn't serve me"
"I ask my Ori to put a protective shield around me, protecting me from all evil and negativity"

You want to start building a relationship with your Ori and I always end with more gratitude. The more you connect with your Ori, the more your intuition, clarity and inter-connectedness with The Universe increase.

Oriki Ori

Bi o ba maa lowo,
If you want to have money,
Beere lowo orii re,
Inquire of your Ori,
Bi o ba maa sowo,
If you want to start trading,
Beere Lowo ori re wo,
Inquire of your Ori,
Bi o ba maa kole o,
If you want to build a house,
Beere lowo orii re,
Inquire of your Ori,
Bi o ba maa laya o,
If you want a relationship,
Beere lowo orii re wo,
Inquire of your Ori first,
Ori mase pekun de,
Inner spirit please do not shut the gate,
Lodo re ni mi mbo,
It is you that I am coming to,
Wa sayee fun awon omo mi di rere,
Come and make my life prosperous,
Ase.

It is important to make venerating your Ori a priority. Ifa teaches us to venerate our Ori before any other deity. Think of your Ori as your personal Orisha that lives within you. I know a lot of people in the diaspora tend to want to jumo straight to connecting with their Orisha, but like I always say, don't forget the "ori" in Orisha.
